The best boots I've owned
This is my third pair of Durands and my first pair of Durand II. The previous pairs have carried me on hikes across 3 continents plus innumerable local hikes and state park patrols. I like them so much I use them on light hikes that don't really call for this heavy of a boot. They just feel that good. Today I took them for their first serious hike. I was a little concerned about some of changes on the new version but on the trail they were every bit as good as the older design.

Do not buy

These boots suffered a catastrophic material failure—specifically within minutes of stepping of a train. The soles did not simply delaminate; the polyurethane structure completely disintegrated on both shoes. I have confirmed this was not caused by chemical exposure, as the crumbling material caused no skin irritation upon contact.
The response from Keen was this was normal and expected degradation.

1500+ tough miles and outstanding durability
9 months ago
Best hiking/hunting boots I have ever owned (now age 60+). Photos show the wear after a conservative estimate of 1500+ miles hunting/hiking in flatlands to rocky mountains of WI, WY, ID, NM in wet humid, to snow to dry weather conditions. Leather finally started to split (see pencil tip next to repair) but mainly my fault as you can see the leather is dry and I had not oiled them for a couple hundred miles. Repaired leather cracks with Aquaseal and will continue using till new pair arrives. The stitching did not fail (see photos). Soles are still in good shape and showing some wear, but that is expected with the mileage. In size 8. 5 they weigh 44. 5 oz. which is light for a leather boot. These boots are very comfortable for my feet and provide good ankle support in steep terrain. I hope Keen continues to make them for many more years.

Dangerously Slippery Soles
First, I really appreciate that they are made in America. I’ve worn these boots for 2 years and the fit and construction is great, but they are the sole of the shoe is very very slippery. If you step on the smallest rock that’s a little wet, log, roots or step on a damp tile floor it is like you are ice skates. I wouldn’t recommend these until they fix the sole. Maybe I’ll try an anti slip work boot model next, otherwise I find Merrill hikers to by less slippery.
I would really like to exchange them if I could.

Love these things!
This is my 4th pair of these boots. I absolutely love them! They are completely comfortable (after the break-in period) and last a very long time. I’ve been wearing hiking boots exclusively for 17 years now. And these are the only ones I keep going back to.

Not the same Keen
I have been wearing Keens for longer than I can remember. Particularly the Durand. They are not the same quality or fit they used to be.
