Softwalk San Marcos II Mule

This is a very well constructed, high quality leather shoe. The mule is beautiful, with the braided leather effect, and very comfortable. The shoe has a removable padded insole: when removed, the mule is still very cushiony. And actually, the choice of using or not using the insole decides the fit of the mule. For comparison, I normally wear a 7 1/2, standard or medium width, and ordered size 8, medium width, in tan. With the removable shoe liner in place, the shoe bed is higher than pictured, so that there is not really much of a heel rim - it is almost flat, about 1/8 inch deep. The picture shows a depth, which helps the mule stay on the foot. For my shoe, that was with the extra insole removed, which gave a depth of 1/2 - 3/4 inch heel rim. So, with the insole in, the mule fit loosely, but was hard to keep the shoe on, without the back rim. When the insole was removed, the shoe was way, way too wide. As to the length, it fit well for barefoot and lightweight socks; otherwise with a thicker sock would have required the next size up. The interesting thing: next, I did order this same mule in the style with the embossed front instead of braided, in a size 8 narrow. With the extra insole in place it was too narrow (my foot hardly fit in); but with insole removed, fit quite well, was still cushiony and comfortable, and now had the nice depth of the back rim to keep my foot in place. Love these shoes since they are so comfortable on my troubled feet! They have a wide toe bed, which makes them extra comfy, and they feel like I am walking on a cloud with their thick lining. Besides these positive features, they are good looking, too!

I wanted a water-resistant shoe and ordered these. I had the option to order 'extra wide' when I normally need 'wide'. I figured I should order the 'extra' if offered. This is the one of the very few times when wide was wide enough, and extra wide was too wide! I'm loving DSW for their selection of wide widths, and this shoe is no exception. Others must like them too; I saw several of this brand that I liked but my size was gone. I will be watching for another opportunity to purchase more.

I love the comfort of this shoe & the quality is great as well. You can remove the sole to put a no show sock on it so no sock fuss. The leather is very soft, wears very well & they’re cute too! I bought these last March I think it was in black & then brown & now navy 😂 The wide width is great w lots of space, no crowding. So I can wear regular socks if I want. I did buy Wide width. They are another great dress up or casual w any pants. Very cushiony for walking.

I am a big fan of Softwalk shoes, but this style was not flattering. I found the shoes to be too big and bulky.

Great fit and some little stylish fun with the woven tops. So easy to slide on and off.
