Keen Targhee IV Waterproof Hiking Shoe - Men's

I like the Targhee IV and I’ve bought three pairs this winter (one as a gift). They grip really well on ice, and they are generally comfortable. The problem I have is that, when I bought my first pair, the Keen website said that these shoes run large and that I should buy a pair that is half a size smaller than usual. I followed the Keen guidance and it turned out to be completely false. The first pair is too small and also not really wide at all. Unfortunately, I waited too long to seek an exchange so I’m stuck with this small, tight pair of shoes. I think Keen should have made an exception on exchanges because their website misled me in my selection. (Note: the website has since been updated and it now says these run true to size. ) I’ve always been a Keen person and this probably won’t change that, but it is disappointing and a waste of my money. My advice to you is to ignore the size suggestions on the Keen website and just buy the size that you normally would. It’s also disappointing that Keen wide shoes are not actually wide like they used to be. Maybe they have new suppliers.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Don’t think their as wide as advertised. . . I have bunions and love Keens for the wide toe box. I have a pair of Austins and they are wonderful. Well, always wanted the Targhees and bought the wide model. Well, not near as wide as the Austins. Other than that, they are wonderful and I think I’m slowly breaking them in!

Fit well with my custom insoles. Wide toe box allows plenty of space for my toes. Keeps feet dry and warm in sub zero temps.

It's been a long time since I could order my true size without compensating for normal width/toebox. I was hesitant, but went ahead and ordered a men's 11 instead of 11. 5, to see if they were truly wide. I got the Sea turtle and had no issue with the fit. I tested them out briefly, and the only issue I have is with the upper sides of the shoes on the inside of my ankle. It rubs pretty lightly, but enough to tell if I went longer in them, they would rub my ankles raw. I took the laces down, and that seemed to help a bit. I can see this feature being good if you are a more advanced hiker and need a snug fit/ankle support. I think this light issue might work itself out after breaking them in a bit. Overall, I'd recommend them.

Purchased the Targhee IV waterproof bison in 2024. At that time, I purchased a regular size. Those shoes were comfortable and were exactly as reviewers had said, large toe box for a regular shoe. A year later I needed a new shoe and color selection was limited, so I got the Targhee IV Sea Turle in wide. When I finally put the shoes out to go on a hike, they felt just okay. Definitely does not offer a wide toe box like the other shoe. Being past the 30 day trial period, I decided to purchase another Targhee IV bison in regular size. Amazingly the toe box was exactly what the 2024 version had, which the Sea Turle wide is missing.
