    Issue with leather upper splitting

    Buyer beware: I purchased a pair of Birkenstock Gizeh platform shoes less than a year ago. I live in the northeast so I was only able to wear them 4 months before putting them away for the winter. I did not wear them everyday during this time period. They were stored in a climate controlled closet off my bedroom. When I took them out this spring to wear I noticed the top leather strap on both shoes had started to split along the top. I reached out to customer service at Birkenstock and was told that some people get less than a year’s wear out of a pair of Birkenstock shoes. I was so surprised, I can’t recall ever having a pair of shoes wear so quickly with so little wearing time, especially considering the price. I am very disappointed in the quality of the shoes and in the company’s response.
