Pretty Shoe, Sizing Off

Beige Patent Synthetic is a lovely, neutral color and the shoe is a feminine, flattering design. Does not look cheap. However, the sizing seems to be off. My usual size flopped off my foot but the 1/2 size smaller was so snug it hurt. So I'm not sure if the shoe runs small or runs large.

The color of the nude shoe is exactly what I was wanting, the style is very sleek, the heel height is great. I would have preferred a non-patent version; I am not a big fan of patent shoes.
The fit is frustrating. I normally wear a 7.5 and sometimes an 8 in closed toe or pointy shoes. While the 7.5 in these is long enough and the back does not slip like many pumps do, the toe area is rather tight. I tried the 8, too long and slips, I tried the 7.5 wide even though I do not have wide feet and while the toe area had more room the heel was then too large. I was at the store a couple weeks ago and they got more in my size in stock, I tried another 7.5 but they have changed, the fit was weird, they were looser in the toe area but the back of the shoe was shaped oddly, not sure if it was just a defective pair or if they changed them. I still have my original 7.5 and have been trying to stretch the toe area a bit but because they are patent, they don't stretch much.
