Dr. Martens History

Dr. Martens, originally conceived in 1945 by Dr. Klaus Maertens to aid in his own foot recovery, quickly evolved into an iconic footwear brand. Teaming up with Dr. Herbert Funk, they repurposed military materials to craft shoes with an innovative air-cushioned sole. By 1947, formal production commenced, leading to rapid success, primarily among older women. In 1960, the renowned Griggs family, hailing from the town of Wollaston in the English Midlands, secured an exclusive license for the boot.
